Why Becoming a Published Author is the Ultimate Marketing Tactic

Are you struggling to stand out in a saturated market?

Do you feel like everywhere you look is a coach who has a stronger content game or a prettier grid that's just reeling in the clients, regardless of how good they are?

Are you trying everything you can to help as many people as possible but feel like you're hiding under a rock?

This is where writing a book is going to become your new marketing strategy.

Here Are 7 Reasons Why Coaches Should Become a Published Author as Part of Their Marketing Strategy

Reach More People

Have you ever felt that driving need to help everyone you see? You're naturally a caring person and that passion to help is within you; that’s why you became a coach. But how can you reach everyone? There are over 7 billion people in the world. Approximately 4 billion of those people are between 20-60 which is prime client age for coaches. So how do you reach them all?

What about the people who can’t afford your regular client services? You want to help them too, right? And you wish you could help them for free (or for as little as possible) but you’ve got bills to pay!

Writing a book will make your services and expertise available for people who don’t have the budget to work with you 1:1 right now. Or for the people who don’t have access to a computer or WiFi. Or for the people who want to work with you but there are just not enough hours in the day and you’re fully booked until December 2024!

Credibility

In an ever-growing saturated market – stand above the rest.

One way to truly rank yourself higher than the coach next to you, is to become a published author within your specific market.

Think about whenever you have trawled through Google looking for a service. What are the qualities of the business owner that have converted you into a customer? Parting with your money and being sure that you are making the right decision with your purchase is huge and it all comes down to trust. Whose service are you more likely to choose – the coach with the 10,000 followers on Instagram with no evidence of expertise, or the coach with 2,000 followers and a reputably published book?

Be Relateable, Be Raw

People buy from people. Often the services offered by coaches require the client to be open and vulnerable in order to help them move forwards.

It's a lot easier for a client to be vulnerable with someone when the coach has been vulnerable with them.

A huge part of someones decision to sign up to your services comes from the connection that they do or do not feel from you. So give them the opportunity to get to know you. Who you are, what's your journey, what have you been through, why do you want to help people, what relateable experience do you have that's going to make that client go: "OMG that sounds exactly like me!"

I'm sure you offer snippets of the real you all through your social media stories, but does anyone actually scroll through anyone's profiles and read every inch of each caption?

Maybe you’re just not being heard online.

However, if someone is buying your book, they’ve already invested in you when they paid the retailer. They will be more likely to fully read what you have to say, buy into your personality and backstory and finally, look you up online for further assistance and coaching after finishing your book. More Revenue

Writing a book is a great way to create a passive income. And not just in the way you might think.

Sure, you'll sell your book online and may even get into a few retailers. You'll of course make money from the royalties here. But I'm talking about the additional revenue of:

  • more clients

  • more speaking gigs

  • more podcast interviews

  • more PR opportunities

  • higher paying clients

Becoming a published author can really open doors for you and your brand, in more ways than you might have initially thought. Can you think of any others ways you could use your book as an "in" to a new opportunity specific to your niche?

Mailing List Sign-ups and Therefore Larger Audience

Once someone has read your book, more likely than not they are going to want to find out more about you - especially if they have come across your book organically. Imagine sticking a link to your mailing list subscription at the back of your eBook and having every reader sign-up. That's a huge audience you're potentially reaching.

Additionally, referencing your book efficiently using meta-data on Amazon will basically make your book accessible via search engines. If someone looks up a wellness coach with your specific niche, they come across your book listed on Amazon, they read the book and sign-up to the links at the back. BAM - an ever increasing mailing list at your fingertips.

Refresh Your Marketing Strategy

Social media simply isn’t enough anymore.

Not only are you pitching up against other life coaches with potentially more experience than you, there are also the coaches out there who are pretending to have more experience than you. And maybe their reel & TikTok game is better than yours too.

Does the strength of your business really come down to how adept you are at spotting a trending audio on Instagram?

With people buying followers and blue ticks like they’re on offer at Sports Direct, who can really tell the genuines from the fakes?

So, you have to mix things up. Huddle up and think tactics. Offer what the next coach can’t. Writing a book is a HUGE marketing tactic to deploy to make you stand out in the crowd - and without wasting your life trying to beat the different social media algorithms.

Lead Magnet or Business Card

What's better than giving our a business card at events? Giving out a whole effing book! Not only are they getting your contact information, they're getting to know you, what your story is and more importantly, they're getting value.

In a less literal way, becoming a published author is a great way to create coaching leads at the top of your sales funnel. Once your reader has read your book, its pretty likely that they have basically lead themselves into your sales pipeline to become a potential customer.
